Fragments only. Tailwind Airlines publishes some assistance information but not a full mobility-aid policy. What is below is everything it actually states. Everything marked “not published” genuinely is — confirm it with the airline rather than assuming the international baseline applies.

Wet-lease / ACMI operator. Tailwind Airlines usually flies aircraft and crew on behalf of other airlines. If your ticket says another airline, that airline’s wheelchair policy governs your booking — but the aircraft’s physical hold limits are this operator’s.

Who to contact

Transcribed from the sources cited at the foot of this page — not all of them the airline’s own.

tailwind.com.tr sits behind a Cloudflare interactive challenge that blocked every automated route tried again on 29 July 2026 (direct fetch with a browser user-agent: HTTP 403 'Just a moment…'; reader proxy with 25 s render: the same challenge), so all Tailwind text here is read from Internet Archive snapshots of Tailwind's own pages; the policy_pages links point at the live URLs a human browser can open. CDX confirms these are the newest captures that exist. Tailwind sells no tickets of its own — 'Tailwind'in bilet satışı bulunmamaktadır' — so an assistance request must go through the tour operator, at booking and at least 48 hours before departure. No disability desk, assistance e-mail or assistance form is published anywhere on the site; the SHGM links above are the live regulator fallback. The lost-baggage address appears as 'lostfound@tailwind.com.tr' on the FAQ and as 'lost.found@tailwind.com.tr' in one block of the travel-information page; only the first is recorded here.

3 of the unanswered fields below share one explanation: no watt-hour figure of any kind appears on Tailwind's site, and its wheelchair-battery paragraph addresses only non-spillable/dry batteries. ICAO/IATA default applies — see global rules. The rest carry their own.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Conditional

Accepted, but under material restrictions Tailwind publishes itself: 'Ağırlığı 45 kg'ın üzerinde olan özel yapım elektrikli sandalyeler kapladığı yer sebebi ile max.2 adet kabul edilir' — because of the space they take, a maximum of two custom-built electric chairs over 45 kg are accepted. Prior notification to the ticketing agency and Tailwind's confirmation are required (48 hours), the chair must arrive already flight-ready, and it must not exceed 86 x 86 x 86 cm.

Lithium-ion batteries
Not published

Not published. Tailwind's mobility-aid battery paragraph covers only non-spillable/dry and non-spillable wet batteries ('akü'); lithium-ion wheelchair batteries are never mentioned, and there is no watt-hour figure anywhere on the site. The only lithium content is a notice banning recalled 15-inch MacBook Pro units from cabin and hold.

Battery must be removed
Yes

Yes, for the battery types Tailwind names: carriage in the hold is conditional on 'akünün sökülmesi, tekerlekli sandalyeye sağlam bir şekilde bağlanması' (the battery being removed and firmly secured to the wheelchair). If the chair cannot be loaded, stacked, secured and unloaded upright, 'akü sökülmeli ve ayrı olarak bagaj bölümüne alınmalıdır' — the battery must be removed and taken separately into the hold in a plastic tray or container. Ground staff have no tools to do this: 'Yer hizmeti yetkilileri batarya veya şarj aletlerinin sökülmesi için gereken teçhizatlara sahip değildir.'

Wet / spillable batteries
Not published

Not published. Tailwind's battery paragraph names only 'dökülmez ve kuru aküler' (non-spillable and dry batteries) and 'dökülmez yaş bataryalar' (non-spillable wet batteries). Spillable wet batteries are not mentioned at all — do not assume they are carried.

Terminal protection & immobilisation
Yes

'…kutuplarının yalıtılması koşuluyla' — the battery terminals must be insulated, and the removed battery firmly attached to the wheelchair, before the chair is accepted into the cargo compartment. Where the battery has to travel loose it must be placed in a plastic tray or container to keep the hold clean and undamaged.

Same explicit wheelchair size limit as for manual chairs: 'Tekerlekli sandalyelerin taşınabilmesi için ölçülerinin 86*86*86 cm`den büyük olmaması gerekmektedir' (86 x 86 x 86 cm maximum). Tailwind separately publishes hold volume and payload for its fleet (737-400: 38.9 m³ / 7,484 kg; 737-800: 45.1 m³ / 8,407 kg) but no door aperture.

Weight limit for a powered chair
Not published

No maximum weight is published. 45 kg is a threshold, not a cap: chairs heavier than 45 kg that are custom-built and electric are limited to two per flight for space reasons. The only absolute figure on the site is the general 32 kg per single piece of checked baggage, with no stated exemption for mobility aids.

Tailwind publishes battery-handling rules (removal, securing, terminal insulation, loose battery in a plastic container) but no dangerous-goods table, no watt-hour limits and nothing at all on lithium-ion chairs. The chair must arrive flight-ready — ground staff carry no tools to disconnect batteries or chargers — and must be presented at the counter at least 2 hours before departure. A power-chair user should still confirm the lithium rules with the tour operator that issued the ticket.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

Wheelchairs are a carried category in Tailwind's own fee table ('TEKERLEKLİ SANDALYE — ÜCRETSİZ') and its PRM section states 'Kendi tekerlekli sandalyesi ile gelen yolcularımıza uçak merdivenine kadar eşlik edilecektir ve sandalyeleri uçak ambarına yüklenecektir' — a passenger arriving with their own wheelchair is escorted to the aircraft steps and the chair is loaded into the hold. Getting the chair into a loadable state before the flight is the passenger's responsibility.

Folding chair may travel in the cabin
Not published

Not clearly published, and Tailwind's two statements pull opposite ways. The PRM section says an own wheelchair is taken at the aircraft steps and 'uçak ambarına yüklenecektir' (loaded into the hold), while the security section says 'Tekerlekli sandalyelerin, yürüme aparatlarının arandıktan sonra uçağa alınmasına izin verilecektir' (wheelchairs and walking aids will be allowed onto the aircraft after screening). No in-cabin stowage space, size or approval route is described, so nothing is asserted.

Weight limit for a manual chair
Not published

No wheelchair-specific weight limit is published. The general rules are that the free allowance is shown on the ticket and 'genelde 20 kg ile sınırlanır' (usually limited to 20 kg) and that 'her bir parça bagaj ağırlığının 32 kg'ı kesinlikle aşmaması gerekmektedir' — no single piece may exceed 32 kg; Tailwind does not say whether mobility aids are exempt. The only wheelchair weight figure on the site is the 45 kg threshold above which custom-built electric chairs are capacity-limited.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published as such. Tailwind says a passenger who arrives with their own wheelchair is accompanied 'uçak merdivenine kadar' (as far as the aircraft steps) and the chair is then loaded into the hold, so it is surrendered planeside rather than at check-in — but the airline says nothing about returning it at the aircraft door on arrival.

Tailwind's reduced-mobility section grades assistance as WCHR / WCHS / WCHC and says a wheelchair is supplied free by the ground handler at every airport on request. Getting the chair into a loadable state before the flight is expressly the passenger's responsibility. Stretcher passengers are refused outright ('uçak tipi sebebi ile sedyeli yolcu kabul etmemektedir'). An extra seat may be bought for fragile cabin items (max 75 kg per seat), but that text is written for musical instruments and valuables, not mobility aids.

Booking & cost

Advance notice requiredhours before scheduled departure
48h

Tailwind's reduced-mobility section requires the passenger to tell the agency that sold the ticket at the time of booking and obtain confirmation of acceptance: 'Uçuşa 48 saatten az süre kalması durumunda yapılan bu tür talepler … karşılanamayabilir ve yolcu uçuşa kabul edilemeyebilir' — a request made less than 48 hours before departure may not be met and the passenger may be refused. A chair needing preparation must additionally be presented at the counter at least 2 hours before departure. The Turkish DGCA instruction SHT-ENGELSİZ sets the same 48-hour notification.

How to request assistance
Tell the tour operator / agency that issued the ticket at the time of booking and get Tailwind's confirmation of acceptance — at least 48 hours before departure; Tailwind sells no tickets itself

'Bu tür durumdaki yolcularımız, rezervasyonları sırasında biletlerini aldıkları acentaya durumu bildirmek ve uçuşa kabul edilebileceklerine dair teyit almak zorundadırlar' (PRM passengers must notify the agency they bought the ticket from at reservation and obtain confirmation they can be accepted). Tailwind adds 'Tailwind'in bilet satışı bulunmamaktadır' — it sells no tickets directly, so there is no airline booking channel; it publishes only a switchboard and a suggestion/complaint form.

Charge for carrying the aid
No fee

The special/excess-baggage fee table prices every other item in euros (bicycle €40, ski €30, sports equipment €25, golf €30 …) and lists 'TEKERLEKLİ SANDALYE — ÜCRETSİZ' (wheelchair — free of charge). The PRM section adds 'Yolcunun talep etmesi durumunda tekerlekli sandalye hizmeti Tailwind Havayolları tarafından ücretsiz olarak sağlanmaktadır' (wheelchair service is provided free on request) and 'Kılavuz köpekler ücretsiz olarak taşınmaktadır' (guide dogs carried free); the FAQ says PRM medical equipment attracts no extra charge. Mobility devices carried free
Not published

Tailwind publishes no per-passenger count of its own, so no value is asserted. As a legal backstop the Turkish DGCA instruction SHT-ENGELSIZ (Annex-1) entitles each disabled passenger to carriage of up to 2 mobility items, electric wheelchair included — that is the regulator's floor, not Tailwind's published policy.

If they damage your chair
No mobility-aid rule published; Tailwind disclaims liability for damage to protruding baggage parts such as wheels, straps and handles, but Turkish DGCA rules make the responsible operator liable for a damaged wheelchair

'Tailwind Havayolları … tekerlek, kayış, şerit, çekçek ve benzeri çıkıntılı bagaj parçalarının kayıplarından veya hasarından … sorumlu tutulamaz' — no liability for loss of or damage to wheels, straps, bands and pull-handles, nor for poorly packed baggage. Damage must be reported before leaving the arrival airport, or in writing within 7 days; delayed baggage attracts €20 per day. Against that, SHT-ENGELSİZ Art. 14 makes the service provider responsible at the stage where a wheelchair or other mobility equipment is lost or damaged liable for the passenger's loss.

Other seats may be assigned by check-in staff according to the passenger's physical condition. Deaf and blind passengers are likewise kept away from aisle and exit-door positions. Ordinary seat selection is a paid ancillary (standard €10, XL €20, front row €20).

Fleet detail. Tailwind publishes an explicit maximum wheelchair size of 86 x 86 x 86 cm. Fleet is 5 x Boeing 737-400 (168 seats, hold 38.9 m³ / 7,484 kg) and 2 x Boeing 737-800 (189 seats, hold 45.1 m³ / 8,407 kg); hold volume and payload are published but no cargo-door aperture, so only the 86 cm figure may be presented as a size limit.

Worth knowing

FRESHNESS PASS 29 JULY 2026. tailwind.com.tr is still behind a Cloudflare interactive challenge from every route (direct with browser UA, reader proxy, reader proxy with 25 s render — all HTTP 403 / 'Just a moment…'), and the Wayback CDX index confirms there is NO capture of any Tailwind page later than 9 September 2025: travel-information stops at 23 June 2025, contact-us at 20 March 2025, security-information at 7 February 2025. Every Tailwind figure below is therefore 10-18 months old and a human should re-check it, especially the special-baggage fee table where 'TEKERLEKLİ SANDALYE — ÜCRETSİZ' sits (that table was byte-identical in the 8 November 2024 and 23 June 2025 captures, so it had not moved in that period). MAJOR CORRECTION: the previous pass read only the first part of the travel-information page and recorded Tailwind as publishing almost nothing. It in fact carries a full 'Hareket Kabiliyeti Kısıtlı Yolcular' (reduced-mobility passengers) section, which has now been read in full and which yields an explicit maximum wheelchair size of 86 x 86 x 86 cm, a 48-hour notification deadline enforced through the ticketing agency, a two-per-flight cap on custom-built electric chairs over 45 kg, battery removal/securing/terminal-insulation rules for non-spillable and dry batteries, free wheelchair service and guide-dog carriage, and a window-seat-only (A/F) seating rule. Those fields were previously null. STILL ABSENT and therefore still null: any lithium-ion wheelchair-battery rule, any watt-hour figure, any spare-battery allowance, any maximum weight, any on-board aisle chair or accessible lavatory. SAFETY WARNINGS A TRAVELLER MUST SEE: Tailwind refuses stretcher passengers outright ('uçak tipi sebebi ile sedyeli yolcu kabul etmemektedir'), and it refuses carriage altogether to 'hava basıncı ya da elektrikle çalışan cihazlara tabi bulunan hastalar' — patients dependent on pressurised or electrically powered medical devices — because such devices are not permitted on board. A passenger travelling with a ventilator, CPAP or portable oxygen concentrator must clear this with the tour operator before booking. Two live Turkish DGCA (SHGM) sources have been added because every Tailwind source is an archive snapshot: SHT-ENGELSİZ, the national instruction that binds Tailwind (48-hour notification, assistance and up to two mobility items per passenger carried without extra charge, Art. 14 liability for a damaged wheelchair), and the SHGM passenger-rights/complaint page. Tailwind is an ACMI/charter operator selling only through tour operators, so the contracting operator's conditions govern the booking.
