Sichuan Airlines publishes no dedicated accessibility desk, no assistance-request web form and no TTY/text-relay service; everything goes through the 95378 hotline, a Sichuan Airlines direct ticketing office or any of its sales departments. Complaints also take a postal address: 四川省成都市双流国际机场-四川航空大厦品质部, postcode 610202. NOTE a defect on Sichuan's own footer: the printed complaints number is 95378-1-3 but the underlying tel: link dials 95378-1-7; only the printed number is recorded here. Sichuan's main special-passenger page (sichuanair.com/special-passengers/) renders its content only in a JavaScript browser, so the substantive rules were read from the airline's own Special Passengers PDF and baggage FAQ instead.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Conditional

"The type, quantity and packaging of the electric wheelchair carried must comply with the relevant civil-aviation transport safety rules and can be carried only with Sichuan Airlines' consent", and "electric wheelchairs are only for passengers whose mobility is restricted by disability, health or age". Sichuan's dangerous-goods table marks a powered chair as acceptable as CHECKED baggage but requiring Sichuan Airlines' approval at the check-in counter, with the request lodged 48 h ahead and the chair handed over 2 h before the ordinary check-in deadline.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
Not published

Not published. Sichuan's 300 Wh figure is written for a battery that is removed ("取出的电池不得超过300Wh" / "可以拆下的锂电池不超过300 Wh"). Where the chair's design adequately protects the battery it may stay securely fitted with the circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions, and no watt-hour cap is stated for that case.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
2

Maximum of two: one spare lithium battery of up to 300 Wh, or two spares of up to 160 Wh each. For non-lithium chairs the spare limit is one non-spillable battery, or two dry-cell or NiMH batteries. Sichuan's general 160 Wh power-bank/lithium-battery ban does NOT apply here — its conditions of carriage say wheelchair lithium batteries are handled under Sichuan's own separate rules (电动轮椅使用的锂电池的运输标准按照川航相关规定办理).

Conditional

Removal is required only if the chair cannot protect the battery: "如轮椅或助行器的设计可充分保护电池以免受到损坏,电池可牢固安装在助行器上,并按照制造商说明书断开电路;如不能充分保护电池,则需按说明书从助行器上取出" — if the design adequately protects the battery it may stay securely fitted with the circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions; otherwise it must be taken out. Paperwork the airline wants
Conditional

No MSDS is asked for, but for a lithium-ion chair "a UN-approved test document must be provided to prove the battery complies with Section 38.3 of Part III of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria". Sichuan also asks passengers to bring the wheelchair and battery instruction manual and any special assembly tools. Separately, a ground-wheelchair applicant normally needs a medical certificate issued within 10 days of departure, waived if the impairment is obvious or the passenger is over 65.

Returned at the aircraft door
No

"Wheelchairs can be checked in at the check-in counter or boarding gate and will be returned at the luggage claim upon arrival." The sentence covers a passenger's own manual OR electric wheelchair, so a powered chair is not handed back at the aircraft door.

Special Passengers (English PDF) — Sick and Disabled Passengers / Wheelchair Passengers (opens in a new tab) · read 2026-07-29

Sichuan's electric-wheelchair rules are stated to follow the ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air and CAAC regulations, and each powered chair needs Sichuan's approval at the check-in counter.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

"Passengers can bring their own manual or electric wheelchair or mobility aids (like canes, crutches, walkers, scooters). Non-foldable manual or battery-powered wheelchairs can be checked in as luggage." A folding manual chair is carried free in the cabin or the hold in addition to the baggage allowance.

Space-dependent: "Folding wheelchairs of passengers will be stored in the cabin if there's space and facility based on a first-come-first-serve principle. If there's no space or facility in the cabin, it will be checked in as baggage at no extra cost." Other aids that may be taken into the cabin: walkers, crutches, canes, prosthetics, cochlear implants, hearing aids, white canes, magnifiers and glasses for the blind — stowed under the seat or in an overhead bin, canes laid flat on the floor clear of the aisle and exits.

In-cabin stowage limit

No size limit is published for a folding chair stowed in the cabin — Sichuan makes it depend on whether "there's space and facility" on the day, first come first served, rather than on a published dimension.

Size limit for a checked manual chair
Not published

No maximum size is published for a checked manual wheelchair, and no hold-door or hold-compartment figures are given. The 40 x 60 x 140 cm and 300 cm-total figures in Sichuan's conditions of carriage are the seat-occupying-baggage and oversize-baggage rules, not wheelchair limits, and are deliberately not recorded here.

Booking & cost

Advance notice requiredhours before scheduled departure
48h

Applications should be made when booking and "no later than 48 hours prior to the flight departure time in principle" for: checking in an electric wheelchair; using the on-board narrow (aisle) wheelchair; a group of disabled passengers; and a service dog. A ground wheelchair is 24 h for domestic flights and 48 h for international/regional ones; a stretcher is 72 h. An electric wheelchair must additionally be handed over 2 h before the ordinary check-in deadline, and passengers needing boarding/deplaning assistance must check in 2 h early.

How to request assistance
Apply when purchasing the ticket, through the Sichuan Airlines customer service hotline 95378, a Sichuan Airlines direct ticketing office, or any Sichuan Airlines sales department

"There are restrictions regarding the number and resources available when transporting sick or disabled passengers. Therefore, passengers need to apply for special services when purchasing tickets. Arrangements will be made after confirmation by Sichuan Airlines." A "Special Passenger Service Application Form" is filled in. A ground wheelchair normally requires a medical certificate issued within 10 days of departure, waived where the mobility impairment is obvious or the passenger is over 65.

Sichuan's free-carriage list, over and above the free baggage allowance, is "一辆可折叠的轮椅和/或一双拐杖和/或一副背带或旅客用的其他肢体修复用具" — ONE folding wheelchair and/or a pair of crutches and/or braces or other prosthetic appliances — for disabled passengers who rely on them. On-board aisle chair
Conditional

Widebodies only: "On flights operated by Sichuan Airlines' wide-body aircraft (A330, A350), a specialized narrow wheelchair is available for passengers who cannot walk. This wheelchair is for use within the cabin aisle." It must be requested when the ticket is bought and no later than 48 h before departure. Sichuan's narrowbody flights (the great majority of its network) have no aisle chair.

Accessible lavatory

Not published. Sichuan says nothing about accessible or wheelchair-accessible lavatories on any aircraft type, including the A330 and A350 that carry the aisle chair.

Crew help you transfer
Conditional

Ground assistance is published and free: airport wheelchairs at every airport "for passengers with disability to use for free within the terminal and when boarding or deplaning", and passengers needing boarding/deplaning assistance must check in 2 h before the ordinary deadline. In flight, only the A330/A350 aisle chair is published, plus crew help stowing a cane that will not fold. Nothing is published about crew helping a passenger transfer between the aisle chair and the seat or to the lavatory.

Seating & movable armrests
Not published

Not published. Sichuan publishes no movable-armrest, bulkhead or accessible-seat policy for wheelchair users, and no exit-row exclusion specific to passengers with disabilities.

Fleet detail. No cargo-hold door aperture or hold-compartment dimensions are published. The published aircraft dependency is in the cabin: the on-board narrow (aisle) wheelchair exists only on the A330 and A350 widebodies, and cabin stowage of a folding chair depends on whether there is space and a stowage facility on the day, first come first served.

Worth knowing

Sichuan Airlines' main special-passenger page (www.sichuanair.com/special-passengers/#disabled-passengers) is a JavaScript shell that returns no content to a fetcher or to the reader proxy, so the substance was taken from two other Sichuan-owned publications: the airline's English "Special Passengers" PDF (sichuanair.com/pdf/SP.pdf) and the electric-wheelchair table in its baggage FAQ (common-problem/bell-service.html). Two findings a traveller will care about: (1) Sichuan is explicit that a checked wheelchair "will be returned at the luggage claim upon arrival" — it may be checked at the gate but is NOT handed back at the aircraft door; (2) the on-board aisle wheelchair exists only on the A330 and A350, so on Sichuan's overwhelmingly narrowbody network a passenger who cannot walk has no way to reach the lavatory. Sichuan publishes NO watt-hour cap for a lithium battery that stays installed in a chair whose design adequately protects it — the 300 Wh (or 160 Wh each for a two-battery aid) applies to a battery that is removed. The general 160 Wh lithium-battery/power-bank ban in Sichuan's conditions of carriage expressly excludes wheelchair batteries (电动轮椅使用的锂电池的运输标准按照川航相关规定办理) and was NOT written into the battery fields. A human should re-check two things: Sichuan operates to the United States and its own Special Passengers PDF says "local laws and regulations shall apply for routes related to the United States", yet no DOT Complaints Resolution Official or US disability-assistance page was found on sichuanair.com; and the footer's printed complaints number (95378-1-3) does not match the tel: link behind it (95378-1-7).
