Who to contact

Transcribed from the airline’s own pages, exactly as it labels them.

specialcases@dlh.de, specialservice@dlh.de and medicaloperation@dlh.de are Lufthansa Group (dlh.de) desks printed on Lufthansa City Airlines' own accessible-travel page. The airline publishes no separate accessibility phone line of its own; it directs assistance registration to partner Lufthansa.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Conditional

"If you are travelling with your own battery-powered wheelchair, you must ascertain in advance for safety reasons whether this battery may be carried on an aircraft… Based on the details you provide, we will check whether it is possible to transport your battery-powered wheelchair." Prior case-by-case clearance is therefore required.

Lithium-ion batteries
Yes

Both removable (WCLX) and manufacturer-installed non-removable (WCLB) lithium batteries are covered by the form. Removable batteries and spares must be carried in the passenger cabin; a non-removable battery must have its terminals protected from short circuits and its circuits isolated.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
Not published

Not published. For a battery "permanently installed by the manufacturer's design / non-removable" the form requires only short-circuit protection of the terminals and isolation of the electrical circuits — no watt-hour cap is stated.

Watt-hour cap — battery removed into the cabin
300 Wh

"Removable batteries and spare batteries must be carried in the passenger cabin. For those the following limit is applicable: either max. 2 batteries up to 300 Wh each, incl. 1 spare battery, or max. 4 batteries up to 160 Wh each, incl. max. 2 spare batteries."

Watt-hour cap — spare battery
300 Wh

A spare may be up to 300 Wh in the "max. 2 batteries up to 300 Wh each, incl. 1 spare battery" configuration; in the alternative configuration up to two spares of max. 160 Wh each are allowed.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
2

Either 1 spare where batteries are up to 300 Wh each (max. 2 batteries in total), or two spares where each battery is up to 160 Wh (max. 4 batteries in total). The maximum count is therefore 2.

Battery must be removed
Yes

Lithium: "Removable batteries and spare batteries must be carried in the passenger cabin" — a removable battery does not stay in the chair. A battery permanently installed by the manufacturer may remain in the device with terminals protected and circuits isolated. Removed non-spillable/dry-cell batteries are accepted in checked baggage only.

WCBD non-spillable or dry cell (gel, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, sealed lead-acid): "Max. 1 spare wet, non-spillable battery or 2 spare nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or dry cell batteries. Acceptance of removed and spare battery(ies) in checked baggage only."

Terminal protection & immobilisation
Yes

"In any case: electrical circuits must be interrupted; protect exposed battery terminals from short circuit, e.g. with adhesive tape, to prevent unintentional activation of the device; when transporting including the battery, switch the device completely off — remove the key and deactivate it via the joystick, switch, button or other isolating mechanism intended by the manufacturer."

Worth knowing

Lufthansa City Airlines (LHX) publishes its own accessible-travel page and, critically, hosts its own "Electric mobility device information form" (August 2025) on lufthansa-city.com — that PDF is the source of every battery figure here, so no Lufthansa mainline policy has been imported. The airline does state "All important information for your accessible journey is summarised on the website of our partner Lufthansa" and routes assistance registration, booking and baggage questions to lufthansa.com, so Lufthansa Group handling should be expected in practice. Booking is on lufthansa.com; the airline's own site has no booking engine. Short-haul European network only, so no DOT Complaints Resolution Official page exists.
