Who to contact

Transcribed from the airline’s own pages, exactly as it labels them.

Lion Air publishes no dedicated disability or accessibility desk, no accessibility email address and no assistance-request form. It operates no inbound passenger voice line at all: the wheelchair-service article states "❌ Voice calls are not available". The channels for a wheelchair request are WhatsApp chat (+62 811-1938-0888, 24 h), customercare@lionairgroup.com, a Lion Air Group representative office, or the airport check-in counter (mandatory — wheelchair users cannot check in online). Stretcher requests go to the same WhatsApp/email, staffed 08:00–17:00 WIB daily except national holidays. The corporate number +62 21 6379 8000 is an Investor Relations switchboard, and the numbers on Help Centre article 460 are OUTBOUND-only numbers Lion Air calls you from. One Help Centre article prints customercare@lionair.co.id; lionair.co.id itself prints customercare@lionairgroup.com — prefer the latter.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Conditional

Accepted in principle but carved out of the ordinary process, with the actual rules unpublished. Help Centre: "🔋 Bagaimana dengan kursi roda baterai? ⚠ Tidak termasuk layanan gratis Special Baggage. Kursi roda dengan baterai memiliki ketentuan berbeda." (Battery wheelchairs are NOT included in the free Special Baggage service; they are subject to different provisions.) The English articles describe the free wheelchair flow and then except "(not a wheelchair with a battery)". Lion Air nowhere states what those different provisions are — clear it with Lion Air Group before booking.

Lithium-ion batteries
Not published

Not published for wheelchairs. Lion Air's lithium rules cover power banks, spare lithium batteries and drones only: devices containing lithium batteries may not go in checked baggage and must be carried in the cabin. No wheelchair carve-out and no statement on whether a lithium-powered chair is accepted.

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
Not published

Not published for wheelchairs. The only watt-hour table Lion Air publishes is for power banks and spare lithium batteries — "≤ 100 Wh: boleh dibawa di kabin; 100–160 Wh: harus mendapat persetujuan dari Lion Air Group; > 160 Wh: dilarang dibawa ke pesawat" — and it says nothing about a battery installed in a wheelchair. Do not read it as a chair limit.

Watt-hour cap — battery removed into the cabin
Not published

Not published for wheelchairs. Lion Air's general rule is that "perangkat elektronik yang mengandung baterai lithium tidak boleh dimasukkan ke bagasi tercatat. Harus dibawa di kabin!" with the ≤100 Wh / 100–160 Wh-with-approval / >160 Wh-banned table, but no mobility-aid figure is given.

Watt-hour cap — spare battery
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. The general spare-battery table (≤100 Wh free, 100–160 Wh needs Lion Air Group approval, >160 Wh banned) is a portable-electronics rule and is not written as a wheelchair spare-battery allowance.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Lion Air sets no count: the only spare-battery instruction is that "semua baterai harus tidak terhubung ke perangkat lain dan disimpan terpisah untuk mencegah arus pendek" (all batteries must be disconnected from other devices and stored separately).

Battery must be removed
Not published

Not published for wheelchairs. Lion Air requires lithium-battery devices generally to travel in the cabin rather than in the hold, and requires a drone's battery to be removed and carried in the cabin, but gives no instruction for a wheelchair battery.

Non-spillable batteriesgel, AGM, sealed lead-acid, dry cell
Not published

Not published for mobility aids. Gel, AGM and sealed lead-acid wheelchair batteries are not addressed anywhere on lionair.co.id or in the Help Centre. The nearest general rule is the prohibited-articles clause that "carriage of dry cell batteries… [is] prohibited in the passenger cabin", which is a cabin-baggage rule, not a mobility-aid rule.

Wet / spillable batteries
Not published

Not published for mobility aids, and the general rule is a flat ban with no wheelchair carve-out: the Conditions of Carriage bar "Zat Korosif – seperti asam, alkali, merkuri dan sel baterai cair" (corrosives such as acid, alkali, mercury and liquid battery cells), and the Help Centre dangerous-goods article bans "aki kendaraan" (vehicle wet-cell battery) from both cabin and checked baggage. No approved-container procedure is published. Ask Lion Air before travelling with a wet-cell chair.

Not published for mobility aids. Lion Air's general spare-battery rule is that all batteries must be disconnected from other devices and stored separately to prevent a short circuit; no wheelchair terminal insulation, disconnection or immobilisation requirement is published.

Paperwork the airline wants
Not published

No battery documentation is required or mentioned for a wheelchair. A 100–160 Wh spare battery or power bank "harus mendapat persetujuan dari Lion Air Group" (needs Lion Air Group approval), and the Carrier "reserves the right to require a medical clearance from medical authorities if travel involves any unusual risk or hazard".

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published — nothing is said about returning a powered chair at the aircraft door.

The one thing Lion Air does say about powered chairs is that they are OUT: "Kursi roda dengan baterai … Tidak termasuk layanan gratis Special Baggage … memiliki ketentuan berbeda", and the English wheelchair procedure is expressly "(not a wheelchair with a battery)". What those different provisions are is nowhere published — no watt-hour limit, no spare allowance, no terminal or removal rule, no documentation list, no fee. Every battery figure on Lion Air's site is a power-bank/spare-battery rule and must not be read as a wheelchair rule. Indonesian regulation PM 185/2015 does recognise powered chairs as WCBD (dry cell) and WCBW (wet cell), both "membutuhkan pemberitahuan/izin sebelumnya, memerlukan persiapan serta bongkar-pasang" (prior notification/permission, preparation and dismantling) — that is the regulator's framework, not Lion Air's published policy.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

"Perusahaan Pengangkut tidak akan menolak mengangkut kursi roda penumpang atau alat bantu penderita cacat lainnya, kecuali jika alat tersebut bertentangan dengan peraturan keselamatan penerbangan" — carried as priority checked baggage without charge, on top of the free allowance. The Help Centre confirms: "Penumpang diperbolehkan membawa kursi roda pribadi sesuai ketentuan pengangkutan bagasi dan peraturan keselamatan penerbangan" and classes a manual chair (without battery) as free "Special Baggage".

Not published

Not stated, and the published procedure points the other way: "Kursi roda dapat digunakan hingga … depan pintu pesawat (boarding gate)", then "Diberi label oleh petugas / Dibagasikan di depan pintu pesawat" (tagged by staff, put into the hold at the aircraft door). A fully collapsible wheelchair appears only in the list of items carried free "in addition to the free CHECKED baggage allowance". Lion Air never says a folding chair may be stowed in the cabin.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Half published, and only the outbound half. Departure: "Wheelchairs can only be used by Lion Group passengers until they arrive at the front door of the aircraft" — the chair is tagged and loaded into the hold there, and the passenger gets priority boarding. Lion Air says nothing at all about where the chair is returned on arrival, so it is not recorded as gate delivery.

Wheelchair users cannot check in online: "Check-in hanya tersedia di konter bandara", and the counter issues a form to be filled in. If the chair is brought but not used it loses its free status — "Jika kursi roda dibawa tapi tidak digunakan: akan dianggap sebagai bagasi biasa, mengurangi jatah bagasi gratis (FBA), akan ditimbang seperti bagasi normal." Passengers with a disability "will not be permitted to occupy seats in designated emergency exit rows or in over-wing emergency exit rows". Lion Air may require the passenger to travel with their own Assistant where that is essential for safety, or where the passenger cannot assist in their own evacuation or understand safety instructions, and reserves the right to require medical clearance where travel involves unusual risk.

Advance notice requiredhours before scheduled departure
Not published

Lion Air publishes no hour deadline for wheelchair assistance: "Disarankan untuk mengajukan permintaan sedini mungkin" (as early as possible) and, in the Conditions of Carriage, notify "pada saat booking" / "at the time of his or her booking", with a "reasonable efforts" fallback. The only hour figure Lion Group publishes for a disability/medical service is stretchers: "paling lambat 3 x 24 jam sebelum keberangkatan" (72 h). PM 185/2015 obliges the passenger to give 48 h notice — regulator, not Lion Air.

How to request assistance
Declare at booking, then request the wheelchair service via Lion Air Group WhatsApp chat, customercare@lionairgroup.com, a representative office or the airport check-in counter — online check-in is not available to wheelchair users

"Permintaan layanan kursi roda dapat dilakukan melalui: Kantor Perwakilan Lion Air Group; Konter check-in di bandara sebelum keberangkatan." Charge for carrying the aid
No fee

Carriage of the aid is free: "Special Baggage adalah barang tertentu yang tidak dikenakan biaya bagasi, meskipun tidak termasuk dalam Free Baggage Allowance (FBA). Contoh: kursi roda manual (tanpa baterai)", and the Conditions of Carriage accept wheelchairs "as priority checked baggage without charge" on top of the allowance. BUT the airport wheelchair-pushing SERVICE is charged on named international routes, and a chair carried but not used is weighed against the allowance — see electric/manual notes.

Not published

Not published — Lion Air says nothing about an on-board aisle chair, and its own procedure stops the passenger's chair at the aircraft door with staff then walking/carrying the passenger to the seat. PM 185/2015 requires Indonesian carriers to provide transfer to a "kursi roda khusus pesawat" (aircraft aisle chair); Lion Air does not say it has one.

Fleet detail. Lion Air publishes no hold-door or hold-compartment dimensions for any of its aircraft types, and no aircraft type is excluded from carrying a wheelchair.

Worth knowing

Lion Air has no accessibility page on lionair.co.id. Its mobility-aid policy is split across two places: section 4.0 of the Conditions of Carriage ("Transportation of a Person with a Disability" / "Pengangkutan Penderita Cacat", published in English, in Bahasa Indonesia at /syarat-ketentuan, and as EN and ID PDFs), and the Lion Air Group Help Centre articles that sit behind the chat assistant embedded on lionair.co.id. NOTE ON SOURCING: those Help Centre pages are Lion-Air-branded ("Pusat Bantuan Lion Air" / "Lion Air Help Center", "Official Contact – Lion Air Group") and are the knowledge base for the yellow.ai assistant loaded by lionair.co.id, but they are hosted on the vendor domain kb.botplatform.io, not on a lionair.co.id domain; help.lionair.co.id and /pusat-bantuan are dead or empty. They are recorded as official because they are Lion Air's own published words, but a human should note the hosting. PUBLISHED: manual chairs ("tanpa baterai") are free "Special Baggage" carried as priority checked baggage on top of the allowance; the chair may be used to the front of the aircraft door where it is tagged and loaded; priority boarding; counter check-in only, no online check-in; a chair brought but not used is weighed against the free allowance; no exit-row seating; an Assistant and/or medical clearance may be required; stretchers need 3 x 24 h notice. THE MONEY QUESTION: battery-powered wheelchairs are explicitly excluded from the free Special Baggage service and said to have "ketentuan berbeda" (different provisions) that Lion Air never publishes — no watt-hour limit, no spare rule, no removal or terminal rule, no documentation, no fee. Every Wh figure on the site (≤100 Wh / 100–160 Wh with Lion Air Group approval / >160 Wh banned) is a power-bank and spare-battery rule. A SEPARATE FEE, now confirmed on Lion Air's own Help Centre and previously only rumoured: the airport wheelchair-pushing service is free on domestic flights but charged on named international routes — IDR 150,000 Indonesia–Malaysia, SGD 36/hour to/from or transiting Singapore, SAR 100 to/from Saudi Arabia, USD 45 Indonesia–Taiwan, MYR 46 Malaysia–Indonesia, other international routes free. It is waived for stroke patients with a doctor's or Port Health certificate and for passengers whose own chair is pushed by their own family, EXCEPT to/from Jeddah and Medina where it is charged even then. This is a service charge, not a charge to carry the aid, so fee_charged stays false. Two Help Centre articles disagree on the Singapore rate (SGD 35 vs SGD 36/hour). Adverse general clauses with no wheelchair carve-out: wet-cell/vehicle batteries are banned as corrosives from cabin AND hold, and dry cell batteries are barred from the cabin. Indonesian regulation PM 185/2015 (cited as regulator, not as Lion Air policy) fills part of the gap: 48 h passenger notice, free checked carriage of a manual wheelchair (Pasal 43), a full on-board aisle-chair transfer service standard, WCBD/WCBW codes for battery chairs requiring prior permission and dismantling, and a cap of 10% of aircraft capacity on disabled passengers plus unaccompanied minors per flight (Pasal 42(2)) — a booking constraint no Lion Air page mentions. lionairgroup.com is a parked GoDaddy page. The downloadable Condition of Carriage PDFs still print a baggage table for "Malindo Air", which rebranded as Batik Air Malaysia in 2022 — treat their allowance tables as stale, though the disability clause matches the live page.
