The printed number is the one recorded here. Ikar shares its web platform, e-mail domains and back-office with Nordwind Airlines (nordwindairlines.ru); the RU page even tells you to buy tickets on nordwindairlines.ru. There is no dedicated disability desk phone line.

Powered wheelchairs & batteries

The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.

Powered chairs accepted
Conditional

Electric wheelchairs are accepted but «must be transported in luggage hold», and for battery-powered mobility aids «the passenger should obtain the Airline's permission in advance and provide information about the type of battery installed and the procedure for handling the vehicle». Lithium-powered chairs explicitly need airline permission.

Lithium-ion batteries
Conditional

Lithium-ion powered chairs are carried as checked baggage, but «Airline permission is required for transportation» and a removed lithium battery must travel in the cabin. Each battery must meet UN Manual of Tests and Criteria 38.3.

Dangerous Baggage — banned and restricted items, incl. 'Vehicles (wheelchairs, etc.) powered by batteries' (opens in a new tab) · read 2026-07-29

Watt-hour cap — battery stays in the chair
No stated limit

«If the battery of the wheelchair / vehicle with lithium batteries is not removable, then the limits on the energy intensity in Wh, for the installed battery, do not apply» — i.e. no watt-hour cap for a non-removable battery that the chair protects and holds securely.

Dangerous Baggage — banned and restricted items, incl. 'Vehicles (wheelchairs, etc.) powered by batteries' (opens in a new tab) · read 2026-07-29

Watt-hour cap — battery removed into the cabin
300 Wh

«The removed battery should not exceed 300 Wh», and it «has to be carried in the passenger compartment» with terminals insulated and the battery in a protective case.

Dangerous Baggage — banned and restricted items, incl. 'Vehicles (wheelchairs, etc.) powered by batteries' (opens in a new tab) · read 2026-07-29

Watt-hour cap — spare battery
300 Wh

«It is possible to transport only one spare battery with an energy capacity of no more than 300 Wh or two spare batteries, the energy capacity of each of which does not exceed 160 Wh»; spares travel in the cabin.

Spare batteries permittedmaximum number under any published configuration
2

Lithium: one spare up to 300 Wh, or two spares of up to 160 Wh each. Dry-charged / NiMH chair batteries: maximum two spares. Non-spillable batteries: maximum one spare. Spillable (wet) batteries: spare batteries are not allowed at all.

Battery must be removed
Conditional

The battery may stay in the chair if the chair's construction protects it and it is securely attached; it must be removed if the chair cannot be kept upright or the battery is unprotected, and a removed lithium battery travels in the cabin. The accessibility page in any case requires the chair to be switched off and the battery disconnected.

Non-spillable batteriesgel, AGM, sealed lead-acid, dry cell
Conditional

Accepted, but every battery-powered chair needs clearance: "the passenger should obtain the Airline's permission in advance and provide information about the type of battery installed and the procedure for handling the vehicle". For non-spillable liquid batteries each battery must comply with special provision A67; max one spare per passenger; the battery may stay in the chair if its construction protects it and it is securely attached, otherwise it must be removed; packaging must be firm and inelastic and the wheelchair/battery labels are required.

Wet / spillable batteries
Conditional

Spillable (wet) batteries are accepted only if the chair can be loaded, secured and unloaded upright and the battery is protected; otherwise the battery must be removed and packed in a sealed, leak-proof kit labelled «BATTERY WET WITH WHEELCHAIR» with a Corrosive label. If the aid «cannot be brought into a safe condition» it is refused, and no spare wet batteries may be carried.

Terminal protection & immobilisation
Yes

Battery terminals must be disconnected and insulated against short circuit. Passengers using an electric chair must carry «a set of wrenches/tools to disconnect terminal posts of the battery as well as a package for it» per ICAO Doc 9284; gel-battery chairs need not have the battery disconnected if the clamp is insulated.

Paperwork the airline wants
Yes

When requesting carriage the passenger must state the battery's type and capacity/power in watt-hours (and the same for any spares) and the handling/battery-isolation procedure. A removed battery needs the two-part label: one half on the chair showing whether the battery was removed, the other on the battery.

Size limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published. Ikar requires the passenger to state length, width and height folded (or actual dimensions if it cannot be folded), but publishes no maximum and no hold-door figures.

Weight limit for a powered chair
Not published

Not published — Ikar asks the passenger to declare the chair's mass but states no maximum weight for a powered wheelchair.

Returned at the aircraft door
Not published

Not published for powered chairs. Ikar says the electric chair is registered at the check-in desk and handed over at the oversized-baggage counter, after which the passenger is taken to the aircraft in an airport-provided wheelchair; only the manual-chair paragraph promises return right after landing.

Small personal-mobility devices (mono-wheels, Segways, hoverboards, e-scooters) are treated separately and far more strictly: checked baggage only with the lithium battery removed, the removed battery in the cabin only, and a 160 Wh cap. The pilot-in-command must be informed of the location of battery-powered vehicles, removed batteries and spares.

Manual wheelchairs

Manual chairs accepted
Yes

Manual wheelchairs are accepted. The chair is checked as registered baggage and carried in the hold; Ikar recommends handing it over packed to prevent damage or loss of parts. Crutches, walking sticks and folding walkers may go in the cabin.

«Passenger using manual wheelchair with manual control can use it till boarding and receive it right after landing»; the RU page says the chair, checked as registered baggage, may be kept until boarding and handed over at the aircraft door.

Crew help you transfer
Yes

Airport handling staff escort and assist boarding, including medical lifts/ambulift, and take the passenger on board in a wheelchair; cabin crew help with movement in the cabin. Cabin crew explicitly will NOT lift or carry a passenger, or give hygiene/personal care, feeding or medical help.

Worth knowing

Ikar (LLC Aircompany IKAR, ex-Pegas Fly, IATA EO) publishes a full disability page in English and Russian plus a detailed dangerous-goods page that reproduces the ICAO Table 8-1 wheelchair-battery rules, so the watt-hour figures here are Ikar's own text, not an imported default. Two translation traps in the English page: 'accumulator must be off and replaced' renders the Russian 'аккумуляторная батарея должна быть отсоединена' = the battery must be DISCONNECTED, not replaced; and 'helium-type accumulator' / 'Helium-powered wheelchairs' is гелевый = GEL battery. Two safety-relevant restrictions a traveller should know: the number of passengers with disabilities on a flight 'must not exceed the number of healthy passengers on board' (larger groups need advance clearance), and Ikar reserves the right to refuse a passenger who needs supplemental oxygen in flight. Arrive at least 2.5 h before departure and be at the gate 40 minutes before; disabled passengers disembark last. Contact channels are e-mail-only — there is no accessibility phone desk and no online assistance form.
