Powered wheelchairs & batteries
The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.
Accepted only if 'the battery is of a permitted type; battery poles are protected and electrical circuits are isolated; batteries are loaded in a way that prevents movement or damage to other cargo; if applicable, batteries are removed, protected, and transported according to specifications for this battery type; the captain is informed about the location of the mobility aid and/or batteries.' Air Montenegro publishes a clear assistance policy and a genuine wheelchair-battery section, but no watt-hour numbers for mobility aids at all — its 100/160 Wh figures belong to the consumer-electronics rows of the dangerous-goods table and must not be applied to a chair. Four things to plan around. (1) A wet-battery chair is the sharpest conflict on the site: the dangerous-goods document says 'Mobility aids powered by spillable (wet) batteries may only be transported as cargo' as an operator variation to the IATA DGR, while the Special Requirements page says a wet- or lithium-battery chair's manufacturer specification will be reviewed 'to determine if the specified wheelchair type can be accepted on the flight'. Get a written answer before booking. (2) Battery-powered aids must be pre-notified to ground.ops@airmontenegro.com at least 48 h before departure — that address appears only inside the DG PDF, not on the accessibility page. (3) Air Montenegro cannot carry stretcher passengers at all, and there is an unquantified cap on the number of disabled passengers per flight. (4) The dangerous-goods PDF is internally dated 'Status: July 2013' although it was re-uploaded to the CDN in January 2026 — a human should ask whether it reflects current IATA DGR editions. One trap for the dataset: the 120 x 101 x 71 cm / 32 kg figures on the Special Requirements page are the maximum size of a pet carrier in the hold, not a wheelchair limit.
