Conditions of carriage 6.2.5.12: Air China accepts for checking only an electric wheelchair or walking aid belonging to a passenger whose mobility is restricted by disability or health. It is exempt from the ordinary checked-baggage weight and size limits but may be carried ONLY with Air China's prior consent, must meet Air China's dangerous-goods rules, may not be taken into the cabin, and must be checked at the counter.

Lithium-battery wheelchairs and mobility aids are accepted for checking, but conditions of carriage 6.2.5.12 reserves the decision: "电动轮椅或助行器不受普通托运行李的重量、尺寸限制，但应经我们同意后方可运输" (exempt from the ordinary checked-baggage weight and size limits, but may be carried only with our consent). A battery removed from the aid must not exceed 300 Wh; one spare of up to 300 Wh or two of up to 160 Wh, terminals insulated and carried by the passenger.

"The battery rating must not exceed 300 Wh. If two batteries must be used to operate the wheelchair, neither battery rating may exceed 160 Wh." A battery that stays in the chair must be securely fastened with the circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions. Air China publishes one 300 Wh figure and states no different cap for an installed battery.

Conditions of carriage 6.2.5.12 B: a single battery removed from an electric wheelchair or walking aid must not exceed a rated energy of 300 Wh. Removed batteries must have their terminals insulated and be carried by the passenger in the cabin.

One spare lithium-ion battery of up to 300 Wh may be carried; alternatively two spares of up to 160 Wh each. Spares travel in the cabin with their terminals insulated.

Maximum of two. Air China permits either one spare of up to 300 Wh or two spares of up to 160 Wh each, per passenger. Spares must be carried in the cabin by the passenger with both poles insulated; batteries above the stated capacities are refused. The conditions of carriage give an either/or (6.2.5.12 A): the battery must be securely fastened to the chair with the circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions, OR removed per those instructions. Air China's checked-electric-wheelchair page is stricter — "if the electric wheelchair allows the user to remove the battery, the battery must be removed". Removed batteries travel in the cabin with the passenger.

Sealed / non-spillable (dry cell) battery wheelchairs are accepted, booking code WCBD, with the battery securely attached and the circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions, or removed per those instructions. Conditions of carriage 6.2.5.12 reserves the decision for the whole service: "电动轮椅或助行器…应经我们同意后方可运输" (may be carried only with our consent).

Non-sealed (wet/spillable) battery chairs are expressly covered by the checked-electric-wheelchair service (booking code WCBW), but conditions of carriage 6.2.5.12 gates that whole service: "电动轮椅或助行器不受普通托运行李的重量、尺寸限制，但应经我们同意后方可运输" (exempt from the ordinary weight and size limits, but may be carried only with our consent). Airport staff apply a secondary package to ensure the circuit is open and there is no short circuit or battery-fluid leakage.

Removed batteries and spare batteries must have both poles insulated against short circuit and be carried by the passenger in the cabin. A battery left in the chair must have its circuit disconnected per the manufacturer's instructions and be securely fastened. Passengers should in principle supply packaging for the chair; the airport also applies a secondary package to ensure the circuit is open and there is no short circuit or fluid leakage.

No battery spec sheet, MSDS or manufacturer label is demanded. On US routes, however, a passenger checking an electric wheelchair must apply at an Air China direct sales office and complete two copies of the "Air China Limited Special Passenger Travel Application (For U.S. Routes)", presenting the passenger copy at check-in. No such form is published for other routes.

Manual (non-electric) wheelchairs are accepted. The conditions of carriage list a folding manual wheelchair among the small assistive devices a reduced-mobility passenger may take into the cabin; if there is no cabin stowage it is checked free of charge, outside the baggage allowance.

Except for safety reasons, small assistive devices needed during the journey — including a folding manual wheelchair — may be brought into the cabin, limited to one piece per person and no larger than 33 x 91 x 106 cm. It must go in the overhead bin or under the seat in front; if it does not fit, is too heavy, or safety requires, it is carried as checked baggage free of charge.

"Manual folding wheelchairs, crutches, artificial limbs ... with a size of no more than 33 * 91 * 106CM" may be taken into the cabin or checked free, one piece per person. Air China prints the three figures without naming the axes; mapped here smallest-to-width. Equivalent to the US 13 x 36 x 42 in closet rule.

Published only in Air China's U.S.-route service standard: regular (manual) wheelchairs are checked and claimed at the boarding gate unless the passenger asks to check at the counter and collect at baggage claim, and passengers may use their own wheelchair up to the aircraft cabin door. Air China's Chinese-language pages do not promise gate return on non-US routes — they say only that staff move you by Air China wheelchair between check-in and the aircraft door.

US routes: the request must be made at booking and no later than 48 h before departure for WCHC/WCHS and for a checked electric wheelchair or other electric mobility device (WCHR/MAAS requested inside 48 h go to the airport on the day). Elsewhere: wheelchair assistance must be booked by 16:00 local time on the day before departure; a checked electric wheelchair by 2 h (Chinese page) / 3 h (English page) before departure.

Online request forms exist for ground wheelchair (WCHR), wheelchair boarding (WCHS) and checked electric wheelchair (CEW); interline itineraries must be requested segment by segment by phone or at a ticket office. On US routes WCHS/WCHC and checked electric wheelchairs must be applied for at an Air China direct sales office with two copies of the Special Passenger Travel Application; the passenger copy is presented at check-in.

Air China's US-route standard 6.7: compensation for abnormal transport of an assistive device is based on the original purchase price with depreciation for time in service, and the maximum follows the Montreal Convention. General baggage limits: 1,288 SDR per passenger (Montreal), 17 SDR/kg (Warsaw), RMB 100/kg on Chinese domestic flights. Damage must be claimed within 7 days of receiving the baggage; actions time-bar after 2 years.

A free narrow on-board (aisle) wheelchair is provided under the WCHC service to help passengers with no independent mobility in and out of the seat and to and from the lavatory — but only on Air China-operated flights departing from or arriving at 16 listed airports (Beijing Capital/Daxing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Chongqing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Dalian, Hohhot, Urumqi, Guiyang, Lhasa, Wenzhou, Kunming, Shenyang). An accessible lavatory is fitted on B747-8, B777-300ER and B787-9 aircraft. On the A350 an accessible lavatory appears when the partition between two side-by-side economy lavatories is opened.

Under WCHC, airport staff and cabin crew help the passenger move into and out of the seat, and crew help the passenger between the wheelchair and the lavatory in flight. Crew will not assist with actual eating, inside the lavatory, with elimination at the seat, or provide medical care, and staff may not carry passengers except in an emergency evacuation. A passenger may not be left unattended in a wheelchair for more than 30 minutes.

Air China states that on every type it operates, all seats except the economy emergency-exit seats and those in the first row behind the economy bulkhead have armrests that are easily accessible for passengers with physical disabilities. Wheelchair passengers are seated near the crew or lavatory but never in exit rows or the B747 upper deck; on US routes a WCHC passenger gets an aisle seat by the lavatory in business, or seat D in economy with a companion in E.
