Wingo requires the wheelchair service, travel with your own wheelchair, and an electric wheelchair all to be confirmed here or via the call centre at least 48 h before departure.WhatsApp — 'Violeta' assistant, the channel Wingo names for special needs
Wingo publishes no dedicated accessibility phone line or email address — the numbers above are the general call centre, and the airline's named special-needs channel is the 'Violeta' WhatsApp assistant. Check-in deadlines are longer for wheelchair users: 2 h domestic and 3 h international with the wheelchair service, and 2 h 30 domestic / 3 h 30 international if you travel with an electric or battery-powered wheelchair. Wingo does not provide assistance for connecting flights, and the service ends at the airport exit (it does not cover the car park).

Powered wheelchairs & batteries
The part that goes wrong. Battery chemistry and watt-hours decide whether your chair flies, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery can be removed.
Carried free in the hold, but only if the battery comes out: 'If you are traveling with a motorized or electric wheelchair, it can be transported as checked baggage at no cost, provided the batteries have been removed from the chair.' Wingo publishes no route for a chair whose battery is not user-removable. Check-in is 2 h 30 (domestic) or 3 h 30 (international) before departure, and the need must be registered 48 h ahead.

Lithium mobility-aid batteries are accepted and are expressly carved out of Wingo's general watt-hour ban: 'Batteries with a capacity of more than 160Wh are not permitted, with the exception of mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs).'

Not published, and in practice not applicable: Wingo requires the battery to be removed from the chair, so it publishes no figure for a battery that stays installed. ICAO/IATA default applies — see global rules.

Not published. 'Batteries with a capacity of more than 160Wh are not permitted, with the exception of mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs)' — the exception lifts the 160 Wh ceiling for wheelchair batteries but Wingo substitutes no number of its own. That is not the same as stating there is no limit. ICAO/IATA default applies — see global rules.

Not published for mobility aids. The watt-hour classes on Wingo's baggage page (up to 100 Wh, and 100–160 Wh with airline approval) are its general portable-electronics and power-bank limits, which the same page expressly does not apply to wheelchairs.

Not published for wheelchair batteries. Wingo's general figures — a maximum of twenty batteries of up to 100 Wh, or two of 100–160 Wh with airline approval — are portable-electronics limits and are not stated to apply to mobility aids.

'... provided the batteries have been removed from the chair. These batteries must be packed in a separate container, and all electrical terminals must be properly protected against short circuits.' Loose and spare lithium batteries 'are prohibited from being transported in hold baggage' and 'may only be carried in hand luggage', so a removed lithium battery travels in the cabin.

Not published. Wingo gives no separate rule for gel, AGM, sealed lead-acid or dry-cell wheelchair batteries; its only general instruction is that the batteries must be removed from the chair, packed in a separate container with all electrical terminals protected against short circuits.

'If traveling with a wheelchair powered by batteries containing liquids or acids, you may only carry it in the aircraft hold at no additional cost, and the commander must be notified of the presence of this material.'

'These batteries must be packed in a separate container, and all electrical terminals must be properly protected against short circuits.' Loose batteries in the cabin must be 'individually protected to prevent short circuits and kept away from metal objects (keys, coins, rings)' and clearly marked with their capacity in Wh.

No document, spec sheet or MSDS is required. Wingo puts the burden on the traveller: 'It is the traveler's responsibility to know the type of battery in their wheelchair and its technical specifications and to communicate any required information to airport staff.'

Not published — Wingo sets no weight limit for a powered wheelchair.
A chair that cannot be stowed in the cabin 'will be delivered to you at the baggage claim area', and on arrival the agent takes the passenger 'to the baggage claim area and then to the airport exit'. A powered chair can never meet the overhead-bin or closet test, so it is returned at reclaim, not at the aircraft door.

Two statements sit awkwardly together and a human should query them with the airline: Wingo says every electric wheelchair may only be carried 'provided the batteries have been removed from the chair', yet a bullet immediately below says a chair 'powered by batteries containing liquids or acids' may be carried in the hold with the commander notified — which is normally the case where the battery stays in an upright, secured chair.
Manual wheelchairs
'If you travel with a conventional (manual) wheelchair, you may carry it as hand luggage, provided it can be stored in the overhead compartments or the aircraft closet; otherwise, it must be checked as baggage and will be taken from the boarding gate to the aircraft hold at no cost.' The need to travel with your own chair must be registered in the booking 48 h ahead.

'If you travel with a conventional (manual) wheelchair, you may carry it as hand luggage, provided it can be stored in the overhead compartments or the aircraft closet.' Note that if you use the airport wheelchair service you may carry only one personal item, and any paid carry-on is sent to the hold at no extra cost.

Not published as a number — Wingo says only that a manual chair may travel in the cabin if 'it can be stored in the overhead compartments or the aircraft closet'. The one cabin dimension Wingo does publish is for walking aids: 'If you travel with a cane or crutches, the maximum size allowed to carry them in the cabin is 1.80 meters.'

Not published as a number. Wingo's only stated test is whether the folded chair fits in the overhead compartments or the aircraft closet; anything larger goes in the hold and comes back at baggage reclaim.

Not published — Wingo sets no weight limit for a checked wheelchair.
'If the wheelchair does not meet the size requirements to be stored in the overhead compartments or the aircraft closet, it will be delivered to you at the baggage claim area.' On arrival 'an agent will assist you in exiting and collecting your luggage after all other passengers have left the aircraft' and will take you to baggage claim and then the airport exit. Wingo describes no return of the chair at the aircraft door.

Canes and crutches up to 1.80 m may be carried in the cabin; anything longer, and all walkers, must travel in the hold. Wingo suggests walker users request the wheelchair service instead to avoid problems at boarding. The contract of carriage gives passengers needing special assistance or travelling in a wheelchair first priority for seats when a flight is oversold.
Booking & cost
'It is mandatory to verify and confirm, up to 48 hours before your flight, that the service has been added and is suitable for your needs' — via the Violeta WhatsApp channel or the call centre. 'If you request a wheelchair service after this deadline, it cannot be added due to availability and capacity.' Travelling with your own wheelchair, and with an electric or battery-powered wheelchair, must likewise be registered in the booking up to 48 hours before departure. An extra adjacent seat must be bought at least 72 hours ahead.

'For us it is essential that from the moment of your purchase through our website www.wingo.com, include your specific needs or request for wheelchair assistance. It is mandatory to verify and confirm, up to 48 hours before your flight, that the service has been added ... by contacting Violeta via WhatsApp (use the phrase "Special Needs") or by calling the Call Center.' At the airport, wheelchair users check in at the counter using the fast lane and are given a wristband recording their details and condition.

'Travelers requiring special assistance may travel with up to 2 items related to their disability: cane, crutch, bathroom wheelchair, regular wheelchair, at no extra cost.' A motorised or electric wheelchair 'can be transported as checked baggage at no cost'; a manual chair too large for the cabin 'will be taken from the boarding gate to the aircraft hold at no cost'. Extra luggage that is not an assistive device is charged as normal.

Contract of carriage clause 14.4: '14.4.1 Vuelos nacionales: veinte mil pesos moneda legal colombiana ($20.000) por kilogramo. '14.4.2 Vuelos Internacionales: Máximo mil ciento treinta y un (1.131) derechos especiales de giro bajo el Convenio de Montreal.' On board
Not published. Wingo's description of a completely immobile passenger says 'A wheelchair is required on board the aircraft' ('Se requiere silla de ruedas dentro del avión'), but that describes the passenger's need, not a service Wingo undertakes to provide; the airline never states that it carries an on-board aisle chair. Such passengers must travel with a companion.

Ground agents move the passenger to and from the aircraft, but nothing more: 'Once your service is provided, the transfer agent cannot assist you in using the restroom, so you or your companion must do so', and in the cabin 'your companion must assist you during the flight'. A companion over 18 paying the applicable fare is required for anyone with more than 50% loss of mobility who cannot move unaided in an evacuation, who cannot attend to their own physiological needs, or who cannot understand or respond to crew instructions.

Not published for wheelchair users. The only seating restriction Wingo states is for passengers with a portable oxygen concentrator, who 'are not allowed to sit in row 1 of the aircraft or at emergency exits'. Its contract of carriage does give passengers needing special assistance or travelling in a wheelchair first priority for seats when a flight is oversold.

Worth knowing
Identity: the IATA member 'Aero República' (P5) trades as Wingo. wingo.com's own footer reads '© 2026 Aero República S.A. - NIT: 800.185.781-1' and its contract of carriage is headed 'AEROREPUBLICA OPERANDO BAJO LA MARCA WINGO', so wingo.com is this airline's own domain and no parent-company (Copa) policy has been imported. The headline risk for a power-chair user: Wingo will only carry a motorised chair 'provided the batteries have been removed from the chair', and it publishes no procedure at all for a chair with a non-removable battery — many modern power chairs would therefore have no published route onto a Wingo flight. Wingo also publishes NO watt-hour figure for wheelchair batteries; it only exempts mobility aids from its general >160 Wh ban, which is not the same as saying there is no cap, so no number has been recorded here. Other hard facts: no wheelchair-accessible lavatory on the aircraft (stated outright), no on-board aisle chair described, the chair comes back at baggage reclaim rather than the aircraft door, a companion over 18 at full fare is required for anyone who cannot self-evacuate or manage their own physiological needs, and Wingo gives no assistance on connecting flights. There is no dedicated accessibility phone line — the special-needs channel is a WhatsApp bot ('Violeta', +57 320 333 7099) and a missed 48-hour deadline means the service simply cannot be added. The special-needs page is JavaScript-rendered and had to be read through the rendering proxy; the Spanish original was read alongside the English translation to confirm the lavatory and on-board wheelchair wording.
